Tirthan Valley

In 2019 I spent quite some time in the Indian Himalayas. After having conducted field work in the unique high-altitude desert of Ladakh for 3 months, I slowly travelled south on my way back home... Without any preparation I made a stop in Tirthan Valley, Himachal Pradesh. For a couple of days I enjoyed the beautiful biodiversity of this region. Here I spotted the first wild (non-human) primate of my life: the rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta)! Birds and butterflies looked tropical! Despite the fact that the raining season was well on its way, I had a great time!
